If you don't love spending time shaving or spending money on frequent waxing appointments, laser removal is for you. Are you new to laser hair removal? You may need to start preparing as soon as you book your first appointment, depending on when it's scheduled. There are several things to do before having a laser hair removal procedure.
Visit us at Re-juvenation in Georgetown for all your laser hair removal needs. We've written out a pre-procedure checklist full of preparation tips so you can get ready for your appointment.
Six Weeks Before Hair Removal
Yup, procedure prep starts this early. Six weeks before your appointment, you should:
Inform Specialists About Medications: Let your laser removal specialist know about any medications you take, whether they're oral, topical, or drops for your eyes or ears. Let them know at your consultation appointment, but keep them up-to-date as your medications change.
Stop Bleaching: If you bleach the hair you want to remove, stop bleaching it. This is one of the most necessary steps because the laser targets dark root hairs. If they're bleached white, the treatment won't be as effective.
Stop Waxing and Plucking: These two forms of hair removal remove the roots, which are necessary for laser hair removal to work. Waxing and plucking too close to your appointment will result in disappointing results that won't benefit you much.
Two Weeks Before Hair Removal
Once your appointment is two weeks away, start preparing your skin by protecting it from UV rays. Stop all tanning and sun exposure for the areas you will have treated.
If you can't cover the area — who wants to wear a turtleneck in July? — then use sunscreen to protect your skin. Preparing skin properly is important, so be diligent about reapplying sunscreen while you're out.
Do not visit the tanning salon during this period or use self-tanner. Doing so may lead to discoloration or painful blisters and burns that will make your laser removal experience unpleasant.
The Day of Your Appointment
Though we told you not to wax or pluck hair, you can and should shave them. Shaving hair exposes the roots and will make them more likely to be picked up by the laser. It's one of those things where you just have to trust the process!
Perhaps the most important of all the things to do before having a laser hair removal procedure: shower. Take a shower on the day of your appointment. It's courteous to your laser removal specialist, but it also preps your skin by removing oils, lotions, sunscreen, and anything else.
That being said, don't apply anything after you shower. No fruity body mist, no fancy perfume, no soothing lotion. Clean skin is all you need for a successful day at Re-juvenation.
