About Blackheads and Skin Congestion
Blackheads, also known scientifically as open comedones, are a common form of acne that appears when the pores of the skin become clogged with a combination of sebum (skin oil) and dead skin cells.
The top of the pore remains open, despite the rest of it being clogged. This exposure to the air causes the material blocking the pore to oxidize and turn black, hence the name "blackhead."
